Royals sign contract with Wade Davis for secondary league

The Royals announced Wednesday that they signed the right hand Wade Davis a secondary league contract. Davis, a Jet Sports customer, is likely to be invited to spring Major League training and will compete for a spot on the Opening Day list.

This marks the second consecutive year that Kansas City has brought back one of its former All-Star players in a secondary league deal. The Royals with paint Greg Holland to a similar contract a year ago and reaped considerable benefits when the Netherlands not only ran a recovery campaign, but also agreed to return in 2021 with an affordable one-year contract.

Interestingly, Alec Lewis’ reports from The Athletic (via Twitter) that Davis signed exactly the same contract that the Netherlands signed a year ago. Davis will receive a salary of $ 1.25 million if he joins the list of major leagues and can secure an additional $ 1.125 million through incentives.

More to come.
