COLOMBIA – Post-season tributes continue to arrive for Isiah Royal. The 2021 NCAA DII Wrestling National Champion with 141 pounds was honored with a resolution presented at the South Carolina House of Representatives.

H. 4105, which was introduced by Rep. Richard Martin (R-Newberry) and quickly adopted by the House on March 18, reads in part:

“Whereas, in a sport that requires mental strength, endurance and individual excellence, Mr. Royal has capitalized on his athletic ability to create a championship legacy and learn lessons that will be invaluable throughout his life on and off the mats; and

“Since the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the pride and recognition that Isiah Royal has brought to Newberry College and the state of Palmetto, and members hope to hear about their continued achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore, be resolved by the House of Representatives:

“May the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Isiah Royal, a veteran of Newberry College, for an excellent season and congratulate him on winning the National Wrestling DII Championship title of 2021 with 141 pounds. ”

Royal has had just one defeat in the past two seasons, and has compiled a record of 92-27, which is the eighth of all time for most career wins. He has 19 victories by important decision, which is the third largest. He became Newberry’s fourth national champion this month when he defeated Joey Bianchini of St. Cloud State.
