Rosamund Pike is known for her effortless ability to take on a dark role or sinister character.

But actress Gone Girl revealed on Saturday that her latest film, the Netflix comedy thriller I Care A Lot, was her most difficult performance to date.

The 42-year-old actress had to film scenes in which she was trapped in a car underwater, which she did alongside a diving colleague.

She told The West Australian: ‘It was the most challenging two days of shooting I’ve ever done.

‘Even though your brain knows that you are acting, your sympathetic nervous system does not know that you are acting when you are struggling and against the clock and trying to get the headrest out of a car, and you are completely underwater . ‘

The actress added that she went through moments of extreme anxiety when she needed some support.

She said: ‘It was the most challenging two days of shooting I’ve ever done. Sometimes, after about three or four takes, when I asked for my oxygen, I needed to hold my dive buddy’s hand, as if I needed it to control my panic. ‘ Pictured in I Care A Lot

“Sometimes, after three or four takes, when I asked for oxygen, I needed to hold my diving companion’s hand, as if I needed it to control my panic,” she said.

In I Care A Lot, the award-winning actress plays villain Marla Grayson, who earns her living by serving as a court-appointed legal guardian for vulnerable elderly people, who she defrauds.
