Rory McIlroy and other golfers play in red and black to honor Tiger Woods | Tiger Woods

A group of the best golfers in the world paid tribute to Tiger Woods on Sunday after he was seriously injured in a car accident earlier this week.

Woods is famous for wearing a red shirt and black pants on the last day of the tournaments. At the WGC-Workday Championship in Florida on Sunday, golfers like Jason Day, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Sebastian Munoz, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed wore red in honor of Woods.

Max Homa, who won the Genesis Invitational last week and was awarded the Woods trophy, was abused on social media on Saturday for saying he would not wear red and black. He later explained that he was prevented from doing so because of sponsorship duties.

“I mean, without hyperbole, this is the strangest thing I’ve ever experienced on Twitter, lol,” wrote Homa. “I love Tiger more than you do. Promise. Listen to an interview from last week. Red and black tomorrow does not prove it. A lifelong attempt to emulate his approach to the game does. “

Meanwhile, in the Puerto Rico Championship, the field team also wore red and black.

Woods wears red and black on Sundays, from his early days as a golfer. He said he was inspired by his mother, Tida. “I wear red on Sundays because my mom thinks that’s my powerful color,” said Woods of the outfit. “And you know you must always listen to your mother.”

Woods underwent surgery for multiple fractures to his right leg after the car accident on Tuesday in Los Angeles, which a local police officer said he was “very lucky” to have survived. His injuries are severe enough that there are doubts as to whether the 15-time world champion will return to professional golf.

Police say there is no evidence that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident
