Living a fantasy that both many of us had during a nostalgic view of Desk or Band of brothersBarry Allen of Ezra Miller (aka The Flash) is about to make Ron Livingston his father. (It’s strange that we want Peter to Desk be our father? There would be cookies for dinner every night!) Specifically, Variety grades Livingston has just been cast for Andy Muschietti’s developing feature Flare film, taking on the role of doomed dad Henry Allen of the actor Billy Crudup.

Because nothing that DC Films can do can work perfectly, this news does come over only how Zack Snyder’s Justice League reminded us that Crudup was part of the studio original plans for the Flash character –given like him, you know, appears right at the end of the film to shout happily (to his fellow interns) about his son’s fantasy new criminal laboratory job. It is not yet known why Crudup will not be part of Muschietti’s new film, although the film long development time, compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, probably did not help. (But hey, who knows: Given how Ray Fisher ended up leaving the potential role of Cyborg in this particular film, the potential for drama in Justice the land is always out there.)

Livingston joins a cast that includes Miller, in addition to Kiersey Clemons, Sasha Calle, and Ben Affleck (not to mention an appearance by Michael Keaton, reprising his role as the Beaten Man himself). Livingston has been working mainly on TV lately; he had a semi-regular show in Search teamand starred in Audience / Amazon Prime’s Loudermilk the past three years.
