Roku is testing a new rechargeable remote – but charges via Micro-USB

Roku is testing a new version of its remote control for its decoders, the Roku Voice Remote Pro, which replaces AAA batteries with a built-in rechargeable battery via Zatz Not Funny.

Along with rechargeable batteries, the new model – unveiled by the user of Reddit u / KingTut206 on the subreddit Roku – offers some extra features, including a “lost remote finder” option and hands-free voice controls. (Then you can say something like “Hey Roku, find my remote” and ping.) It also has two customizable buttons, in addition to the four pre-programmed buttons for streaming services that have partnered with the company.

Unfortunately, the new remote control charges via Micro-USB, not the most modern USB-C. It is also not widely available now: instead, the current version appears to be a limited early access test, with only 2,000 remotes being sold for $ 29.99.

Hopefully, however, Roku will have a chance to update Voice Remote Pro before a broader release. We certainly have some suggestions, if the company needs them: USB-C, wireless charging and lighted buttons are good places to start.
