Rockford shooting: suspect, Duke Webb, in custody after 6 shots, 3 killed in apparent random act at Don Carter Lanes bowling alley

ROCKFORD, Illinois (WLS) – A sniper opened fire inside a Rockford bowling alley, killing three people and wounding three others on Saturday night, in what authorities believe was a random attack.

Police identified two of the victims as teenagers, but did not clarify their conditions or ages on Sunday morning.

Police identified the suspect as Duke Webb, 37, during a news conference on Sunday morning.

Police said they believed Webb was solely responsible for Saturday’s shooting.

Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea said on Saturday that he did not think any officers fired their weapons, but the sniper was active when the police arrived at the scene.

Rockford police asked the public to avoid the area during the following investigation in a tweet around 7:15 pm

O’Shea said Rockford police received calls for shots fired at the bowling alley at 6:55 pm.

Republican MP Adam Kinzinger, whose district includes Rockford, tweeted that he was “praying for the victims and their families tonight after the heinous attack on our community.”

Rockford is about 80 miles northwest of Chicago.
