Psyonix, the team behind the immensely popular Rocket League, announced a new game called Rocket League Sideswipe, and will come to iOS and Android later this year.
The new stand-alone title adapts the formula you made Rocket League a worldwide sensation. Instead of a third-person perspective, correspondence unfolds from a side-scrolling view. The rules of the game are still the same: direct the soccer ball to the goal of the opposing team.
“At the Rocket League Sideswipe, players compete from a new perspective on the field in 1v1 or 2v2 matches, ”said Psyonix. “The games will be fast paced, 2-minute matches that you can play with close or distant friends thanks to the online game.”
While Rocket League Sideswipe offers a relatively reduced experience compared to its older brother, Psyonix said the game still offers advanced mechanics, including vehicle customization and an online rating system for competitive games. Based on the video of the game, the spirit of Rocket League is very present on the phone – complete with the same breathtaking soundtrack. With matches that last two minutes, this seems like the perfect way to pass the time while you wait in line.

However, players from Australia and New Zealand will soon have the opportunity to participate in a limited-time regional alpha test on Android through the Google Play Store.
