Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 nominees revealed

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations are led by several heavyweights this year.

Leading nominations for the 36th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination are Jay-Z, Tina Turner, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden. The list of female-weighted nominations also includes Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige and the Go-Go’s.

Go-Go bassist Kathy Valentine expressed joy at her nomination on Wednesday, tweeting, “Wonderful news to wake up to and discover that @officialgogos has been nominated for @rockhall.”

“~ Thanks to our incredible fans and supporters. Go-Go’s are the real thing, straight from LA clubs to the top, self-taught and driven. Rock about sisters, ”she continued.

To qualify for a Hall of Fame nomination, artists must be at least 25 years removed from the release of their first official recording. This is the case of rapper Jay-Z, who released “Reasonable Doubt” in 1996; and Foo Fighters with their namesake debut in 1995.

“This remarkable vote reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates,” John Sykes, president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement on Wednesday. “These nominees left an indelible impact on the world’s soundscape and influenced countless artists who followed them.”

Other nominees announced include Rage Against the Machine, LL Cool J, Todd Rundgren, New York Dolls, Devo, Kate Bush and Chaka Khan.

The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class will be announced in May. The inauguration ceremony at the Hall of Fame will take place in Cleveland, Ohio this fall.

Fans can vote for up to five nominees daily from now until April 30th.
