Robinhood posts wanted help ad for lobbyist

Good news, job seekers! One of America’s most maligned companies is currently hiring a lobbyist.

The commercial application Robinhood posted a listing of a federal affairs manager position on various job sites on Friday, giving some lucky candidate a chance to promote a company that managed to unify Ted Cruz, AOC, Elizabeth Warren and Steve Cohen in public outrage at its decision to prevent its users from trading shares like GameStop in the middle of the so-called “Reddit Rally”.

The show in Washington DC is described on the RobinHood website as focusing on “federal law and government affairs related to legislative and regulatory issues”. The company said it was “looking for a highly adaptable and collaborative person who can deal with ambiguity and quickly change priorities with flexibility and patience”.

With about a dozen or more DC politicians asking for more light to be shed on the company in the past 24 hours, the company is looking for someone with “substantial work experience for a member of Congress or a Congressional committee”.

The posting comes amid requests from lawmakers and investors to examine the trade restrictions imposed on popular stocks among retail investors, such as GameStop.

Even the Securities and Exchange Commission agreed. In a rare move, the agency has indicated that it will examine restrictions that brokers like Robinhood have placed on GameStop, AMC Entertainment and other actions inflated by novice investors on Reddit’s “WallStreetBets” forum.

“The Commission will look closely at actions taken by regulated entities that could harm investors or unduly inhibit their ability to trade certain securities,” said SEC Chairman Allison Herren Lee in a joint statement with the agency’s other three commissioners.

Robinhood chief Vlad Tenev defended the restrictions again on Friday, saying he was confident the company would defend itself from a class-action lawsuit opened on Thursday night.

Robinhood did not respond to a request for comment on the list.
