Robin Thicke reflects on the separation of Paula Patton, abusing painkillers: ‘I was in a bad place’

Robin Thicke is being candid about his previous fights.

In an interview with People magazine, Thicke opened up about his latest album, “On Earth, and in Heaven”, and how the album was born out of his love for his children and the people around him.

“In a way, I’ve never been happier,” said the singer, 43, to the outlet. “In many ways, I think I have never been happier. This album is a testament to all the love in my life and the people who have brought me here.”

Thicke’s latest album comes at a time of great poignancy for the singer, who is emerging from a decade of personal and public struggles – including the separation of ex-wife Paula Patton, abuse of painkillers and the death of father Alan Thicke of businessman Jordan Feldstein and mentor Andre Harrell.

When Thicke went from an incipient star in 2002 to the top of the music industry, his personal life began to crumble before his eyes.

“My marriage to Paula was falling apart,” observes the father of four. “I started using painkillers. It was a melting pot of problems forming, and I was so arrogant that I thought I could handle it all.”

“You don’t realize you’re not in control,” added the singer. “Fame and many of these things – they affected me. I was in a bad situation. I’m happy to have ended this chapter.”
