Rob Gronkowski joins Jerry Rice with an impressive Super Bowl TD record

Rob Gronkowski made some history during the Super Bowl LV on Sunday night, receiving his second touchdown pass in the game during the second quarter. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end joined the legend of 49ers, Jerry Rice, as the only two players to perform multiple touchdowns in several Super Bowls.

Rice had three touchdowns in the 49ers’ Super Bowl XXIV victory over the Denver Broncos, and also picked up a trio of touchdowns in the 49-26 victory over then San Diego Chargers in the Super Bowl XXIX.

Gronkowski managed several touchdowns in the Super Bowl in 2018, when he racked up nine receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the 41-33 loss of the New England Patriots to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl LII.

Sunday is Gronkowski’s fifth appearance in the Super Bowl, while Rice has appeared in four throughout his NFL career.

Gronk may have equaled Rice’s touchdown record, but it will be very difficult to reach Rice’s league record of 48 points scored in the Super Bowls.
