Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement to play Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in April 2020, but the future Hall of Fame didn’t exactly register all representatives in the off-season before returning to the battlefield.
Gronkowski detailed a complex system he created for off-season training on Monday, finding a way to trick Tampa Bay coaches as he prepared to return to the field. Gronkowski was forced to upload videos of himself sprinting every day during the off-season, but as Gronk usually does, he found a good loophole.
The five-time Pro Bowler said he recorded himself in several different shirts during a day of off-season training and then used those videos over several days to send to coaches. Gronkowski did not seem very sorry based on Monday’s comments, laughing at his coaches’ ignorance months ago.
Maybe those extra wind runs for Gronkowski weren’t worth it after all. Gronkowski recorded 45 receptions and seven touchdowns in 2020, and he recorded a 29-yard reception for the Buccaneers in their NFC championship win over the Packers.
Gronkowski will have a chance to win his fourth Super Bowl on Sunday when the Buccaneers face the Chiefs. The kickoff of the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa is scheduled for 6:30 pm ET.
