Riz Ahmed’s wife is novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza

Riz Ahmed revealed his new bride.

The actor, who revealed this week that he secretly married, confirmed in Wednesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that he married novelist Fatima Farheen Mirza.

Ahmed, 38, clarified that he was not trying to keep his marriage a secret.

“It’s weird, isn’t it? I think because we live in the age of social media, if you don’t, like, talk about things, it’s a secret – but I never know how much it is to share too much, ”he told Fallon. “Like, I like matcha lattes, but it never comes. I am not a secret matcha latte drinker. ”

The two met “at random” in a New York cafe as he prepared for his film “Sound of Metal”, in which he plays a heavy metal drummer who begins to lose his hearing.

“We both sat at the same table in a cafe where we both showed up to write,” he said. “We were both fighting for the same laptop connection point, as a very modern way of meeting, and we made friends and reconnected later.

He said that meeting Mirza at that time made the film much more special for him.

“Obviously, I met Fátima for the first time and I met many people from the deaf community who became friends. And there is something about that whole period around this film that was kind of life changing, ”he said.

As for the appearance of their secret wedding, Ahmed said that they kept things small because of the pandemic.

“Obviously, we maintained a super intimate and socially detached atmosphere. There was hardly anyone there really, ”he said. “We did it in the yard, which is good in many ways. And I think the coolest thing about it is that you didn’t have 500 aunts hanging around you, pinching your cheeks. No disrespect for aunts. “

He continued to joke: “Asian weddings are big. You always have these people crawling out of carpentry, which I think are probably imposters. They just smell the kebabs on the street and just walk in. ”

Ahmed initially broke the news of his marriage on the January 11 episode of Louis Theroux’s “Grounded” podcast, saying, “This is the first time I mentioned this in an interview. So, congratulations on this incredible scoop. “

Mirza is known for her novel “A place for us”.
