‘Risk’ TV series in progress: board game, Beau Willimon

It’s time to dust off your infantry and cannons: a TV series based on the classic board game Risk is in development, with House of cards creator Beau Willimon in charge, our sister site Variety reports.

The project – which does not yet have a connected network – is part of a multi-year agreement between Hasbro’s entertainment studio, eOne, and Willimon’s producer, Westward. Willimon, who is reportedly an “avid fan” of Risk, will write and oversee the production of the series. (No plot or character details are available yet, however.)

“As we continue to build eOne’s world-class content list, we couldn’t think of more perfect partners than Beau and Jordan [Tappis], whose award-winning narrative and imagination are among the best on the market, ”said Michael Lombardo, President of eOne Global Television, in a statement.

Willimon is best known for creating the Emmy-winning political drama House of cards, which ran for six seasons on Netflix. He also created the astronaut drama starring Sean Penn The first for Hulu.

Risk, dubbed “The Game of Strategic Conquest”, debuted in 1957 and remained a family favorite for decades. In the genre of board games that became TV shows, he joins a new version of Dungeons and Dragons, which was first announced in October.
