Rise of Vitek Vanacek: Caps beat Sabers 2-1

With a tight win on Friday night, the Capitals emerged victorious in the consecutive season opening series in Buffalo. But this was not the command performance that caused the Caps to slow down on Thursday night.

The Caps suffered three penalties in the first period, but skillfully killed them to escape the tie. The second period was equally blah, but Jakub Vrana scored a beautiful goal to give the Caps the lead.

The Sabers scored in their first round of the third period, with one of their many Rasmii losing a blue line wrister. Tom Wilson responded with a wrister to the top shelf at the confrontation point to restore Washington’s leadership.

Caps win!

Two have already gone.

  • Czech goalkeeper Vitek Vanacek made his NHL debut. After two busy periods (including 12 saves in the second), he allowed his first NHL goal – a deflection from Tom Wilson up front. Overall, a very good first appearance.
  • In the meantime, no one seemed to like this very good video that I worked on for countless minutes to create?
  • Last week, well-known scoundrel Kevin Klein published a story on Japers Rink about how the Caps’ penalty problems would soon be reversed. Caps committed five unanswered penalties, three only in the first period.
  • Great PKs though.
  • Jakub Vrana has two goals in two games, and both were crackerjacks. I’ve been predicting a great season for snek, and again i am right in my analysis.
  • Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin it was quiet again. His line did not dominate ball possession as much as on Thursday, and Ovechkin had few looks.
  • Maybe he has a better chance now that he apparently met with Tom Wilson, assistant of the goal of Vrana, top scorer of the game winner and …
  • Taylor Hall, which again I must remember is a Buffalo Saber now, took a record in the face. He came back in the third period with an unpleasant set of stitches on his lip.

So, what is good? It’s too early for me to say, except for this game, which was bad. The Caps have had no control since Thursday night, they put too much demands on their debutant goalkeeper and committed a ton of penalties. But they got another 🌮, and that’s enough for now.

But I’m expecting some Ovi Shots from Ovi Spot this weekend.

Next: The Caps head to Pittsburgh for a half-day with the Penguins.
