These video bells may be good and new, but they are also very expensive and run on batteries that you will need to replace every now and then. Amazon-owned Ring is launching its Video Doorbell Wired to address both of these pain points – notably, it is the most affordable in its portfolio.

If you want a 1080p camera with a night vision camera, two-way voice communication and the ability to check who’s pushing the button right on your smartphone – you just need to connect the bell to your Wi-Fi. Owners can also customize the way how AI detects movement in the vision to get push alerts at the right time. You will need some DIY knowledge and check if your transformer can deliver 10-24 VAC or 40 VA maximum at 50/60 Hz or if your adapter can deliver 24 VDC at 0.5 A.

In fact, there are other smart wired doorbells out there, although they are currently not as cheap as this one: the wired video doorbell is available for pre-order direct from Ring now for $ 60 with shipments starting on February 24th.

But with these budget options come other options as well. There are some advanced features that can be obtained with a Ring Protect subscription, such as motion detection alerts for people only, up to 6 seconds of pre-recorded video capture and automatic snapshots. Customers get a free 30-day trial, so it costs $ 3 a month or $ 30 a year.

The biggest annoyance with the product, however, is that it will not work with an existing chime system – customers can get a plug-powered chime that works wirelessly with the doorbell together with their doorbell for a total of $ 80.

Correction

An earlier version of this story mistakenly labeled the Wired Video Doorbell as the first Ring Smart Wired Doorbell – the Pro Video Doorbell bears that title. We’re sorry for the error.
