Rhule praises coordinators Carolina Satterfield, White

On the road in Charlotte training the Carolina Panthers, head coach Matt Rhule has a great deal of familiarity with coaches in high-ranking positions on the South Carolina football team. Offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Marcus Satterfield and defensive coordinator and coach of internal linebackers Clayton White I worked with Rhule.

Satterfield was Rhule’s offensive coordinator at Temple, his tight end coach in Baylor and an assistant offensive line coach in 2020 with the Panthers. White worked with Rhule when the two were in Western Carolina. Rhule was in Columbia on Wednesday for South Carolina’s Pro Day, while the Panthers hold eighth overall position in the NFL’s 2021 Draft. Below are his remarks about coach Shane Beamer’s leading men in attack and defense.

Lonnie Teasley, who Rhule also mentioned in the second video, is an offensive analyst who works for Gamecocks.

Beamer appointed Satterfield as the offensive coordinator of the Gamecocks and coach of the defenders on January 10, 2021. Satterfield comes to Columbia with more than 20 years of coaching experience in college, including two years as a head coach at Tennessee Tech. He spent the last three years working under the tutelage of Matt Rhule, first as a recruitment director at Baylor in 2018, then as coach of the Bears’ tight ends in 2019, before spending the 2020 season as an offensive technical assistant for the Carolina Panthers.

Beamer appointed White as the defensive coordinator of the Gamecocks on January 10, 2021. White, 43, is three times nominated for the Frank Broyles Award for the country’s best assistant coach (2017, 2019 and 2020) and a veteran 18-year-old coach. He has spent the past four seasons as a defensive coordinator and cornerback coach at Western Kentucky University.

The Carolina Panthers announced Matt Rhule as the fifth coach of the franchise on January 8, 2020. The Panthers made it 5-11 in their first season. Rhule landed his first NFL coaching post after three seasons (2017-19) as a coach at Baylor University. Rhule went to Baylor after four seasons as a head coach at Temple University. Rhule returned to Temple after training with the New York Giants under coach Tom Coughlin in 2012. Before his stint in the NFL, Rhule spent six seasons as an assistant at Temple under coaches Al Golden and Steve Addazio.
