Revelers try to escape on the roof after the illegal nightclub is closed

The venue in Birmingham, England, had a VIP area, dance room and a DJ – who can now face a £ 10,000 ($ 13,880) prize pool fine for violating the country’s coronavirus blocking rules, West Midlands police said.

Dramatic images released on Monday show police officers shouting “police” before forcibly entering the illegal rave, located near the city’s jewelry district, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The commotion is audible from a crowd when they realize that their party has ended abruptly. Police were hit with bottles and a policeman sustained minor injuries, according to the police.

Thermal images from a police drone showed partygoers trying to escape from the roof.

England is in its third national confinement, with people instructed to stay home and forbidden to mix between families.

The illegal party had a bar, neon signs and a dance hall, and police officers even found a recording studio and gym in the building, police said.

About 70 people were fined £ 200 ($ 278), according to the West Midlands Police.

Assistant chief Chris Todd called the attacks on police officers “unacceptable” and praised the crackdown.

“Our policemen continue to work long and hard to protect the public and reduce the spread of this deadly virus, interrupting these meetings, often in really difficult circumstances,” he said.

“While there is a lot to be expected in terms of implanting coronavirus vaccines, people should remember that we are still blocked and the virus is still a real threat to communities in the West Midlands.”

In a separate incident on Saturday night, the police also discovered that a machine shop in Dudley Port had been converted into a bar – called “The Covid Arms”.
