Last week, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village would be released with the free multiplayer deathmatch game, Resident Evil Re: Verse, and the response was mixed. Resident Evil and multiplayer has never been a great combination, and Re: Verse looks quite combined in some ways, with maps and character models from previous RE games apparently being directly recycled. But hey, we saw only a small trailer! Maybe this is the kind of game that needs to grow in you? Well, the Resident Evil Re: Verse beta started yesterday, and some footage came online courtesy of YouTuber KendoGunSop, which you can check out below.
Hmmm, I still don’t know if I’m sold. For sure, I would say the game looks faster and more fun than last year’s super-tiresome Resident Evil Resistance, but there are some pretty weird things going on with the game’s presentation. For example, to make your reused RE2 and RE3 maps look less claustrophobic, it looks like they’ve shrunk all the characters – the doors are now gigantic and the desks and tables reach Claire Redfield’s shoulders. Everyone moves strangely fast too. Is weird. At least it looks like it’s possible to turn off ugly cell shading from the Re: Verse trailer.
