Researchers say that the AstraZeneca vaccine can cause thrombosis in the BRAIN in “rare” cases, as the WHO says it is “not sure” about it – RT World News

German scientists found that administering the AstraZeneca vaccine could potentially produce antibodies that, in turn, would stimulate blood clots in “rare” cases, since WHO does not see such a “causal” link.

A research team at Germany’s Greifswald University Hospital has discovered a mechanism that can lead to the development of sinus or cerebral vein thrombosis in patients who received the AstraZeneca jab.

The team received six blood samples from people who suffered from thrombosis after the injection. The samples were supplied by the Paul Ehrlich Institute – the body responsible for approving and monitoring all vaccines in Germany.

After the analysis, the Greifswald researchers found that an immune response to the vaccine may involve the formation of antibodies that are normally formed only when an organism needs to heal a wound through blood clotting, German broadcaster NDR said.

These antibodies then “activate” platelets and can stimulate the formation of blood clots, especially in the venous sinuses of the brain.

The team’s findings, which have not yet been published in any scientific journal, were then shared by the German Research Association for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (GTH), which published a new guideline for patients receiving the vaccine.

The association’s statement said that the Greifswald team found a “Important pathomechanism” but still noticed that such a complication is “Specific and very rare.” He further stated that the discovery does not rule out a situation in which the thrombosis in patients who took the AstraZeneca jab was triggered by “Other causes.”

The GTH also said it recorded at least 13 cases of sinus or cerebral vein thrombosis in vaccinees with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Germany, including 12 women and a man aged 20 to 63 years. All patients had similar symptoms, probably caused by “Immune event,” added.

Greifswald’s team, in turn, also suggested targeted treatment for people who suffer from thrombosis after vaccination. Even so, it can only be applied after the appearance of blood clots and cannot be used as a prevention.

In light of the latest developments, the GTH issued a new recommendation encouraging anyone suffering from continuous headache, dizziness or impaired vision more than three days after vaccination to undergo special screening to alleviate the risk of developing thrombosis and obtain assistance timely medical advice.

The news came at a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) released its own statement on the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine, saying that the vaccine still has “A positive risk-benefit profile”. The UN Health Surveillance Agency’s Global Vaccine Safety Advisory Committee reviewed data from Europe, the UK and India, as well as its own global database and said it did not find “Any general increase in coagulation conditions” linked to the vaccine.

WHO also said that it is not “right” what “Very rare and unique thromboembolic events” like cerebral venous sinus thrombosis “They were caused by vaccination.”

“A causal relationship between these rare events has not been established at this time,” said.

German scientists are not the first to point out a link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and thrombosis. Previously, similar conclusions were presented by Norwegian experts. Still, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) once again found the jab safe and effective on Thursday, after a week-long review.

The decision caused some European nations, which previously suspended the use of the vaccine, due to concerns about their health risks, to resume their administration. German Chancellor Angela Merkel also said on Friday that “certainly” be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The chancellor spoke in favor of the use of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V in the case of its approval by the EU. If Brussels does not make any requests for the Russian jab after its approval, Berlin might as well do it on its own, she added.
