Republican Party lawmakers are trying this week to get Democratic MP Ilhan Omar from Minnesota out of his duties on the committee, while Democrats are pushing for similar action against Georgia’s battered Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene, Fox News learned.
The House is expected to consider a move this week that calls for Taylor Greene, a controversial first-term lawmaker known for his support for the QAnon conspiracy theory, for his assignment on the Education and Labor Committee.
OMAR CALLS TO BIDEN TO RETURN ‘RECURRING CASH PAYMENTS’
A proposed amendment by the Republican Party for this move calls for Omar, often identified as a member of the “Squad” of progressive Democrats, to be removed from his committee assignments “in light of the conduct she exhibited”, Fox News congressional correspondent , Chad Pergram reported. In the amendment, Republicans argue that Omar made anti-Semitic comments that are grounds for dismissal.
Representatives Brian Babin (R-TX), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jody Hice (R-GA), Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Ronny Jackson (R-TX) sponsored the proposed amendment.
Omar’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In February 2019, Omar sparked an uproar after she wrote: “It’s all about baby Benjamins” in response to a tweet referring to the promise of the minority leader, Deputy Kevin McCarthy, to take “action” against her because of of his criticisms of Israel. Later, Omar suggested that the Israel Public Relations Committee, or AIPAC, was paying politicians to take a favorable position on Israel.
Omar’s comments drew bipartisan criticism in Congress. Later, she apologized and thanked her colleagues for “educating [her] about the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes. “

The Republican-backed effort to remove Omar from the committee’s mandate took shape when lawmakers on both sides of the political corridor examined Taylor Greene about his past and recent actions. A separate House effort aims to remove Taylor Greene from office entirely.
In addition to its support for QAnon, Republican Georgia supported former President Donald Trump’s unproven claims that the presidential election was fraudulent. In previous social media activities, she “liked” posts calling for violence against prominent Democrats and said there had been mass shootings.
