On Friday, The Daily Beast reported that a federal judge in South Dakota attacked Republican Governor Kristi Noem in an order that ordered a state court to stop delaying a defendant’s trial.

The state court argued that the trial needed to be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But Judge Charles Kornmann pointed out that the state’s response to the pandemic was too incompetent and disengaged for them to use it as an excuse to deprive people of their Sixth Amendment right to a quick and public trial.

“South Dakota has done little or nothing to reduce the spread of the virus,” wrote Kornmann, adding from Noem specifically: “His example significantly encourages South Dakota residents not to wear masks … South Dakota is now a very dangerous to live in due to the spread of COVID-19. “

Noem proudly boasted that his state will not infringe on the freedom of residents with public health restrictions, even though his state reports more than 500 new cases per day and a positive test rate of 42.3 percent – one of the worst country rates. She often worries about other issues, including a trip to Georgia to campaign for Republicans in the second round of the Senate.
