In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett on Monday, Commissioner Al Schmidt called the Republican Party.
“It is strange to hear Republican organizations complain about the cancellation of culture and yet they are trying to censor elected Republican officials who have done nothing but tell the truth, “said Schmidt.” If you want to censor someone, I suggest that you censor elected Republican officials who are lying to voters. “
He continued to talk about the lies that sparked violence across the country.
“These lies have consequences, as we have seen across the country. As we saw in Washington, DC, as I saw outside my home, these lies have consequences and, honestly, I don’t know what the solution is to get around it,” said Schmidt.
Schmidt, in November, also said that he and his team members received death threats while counting the votes, adding that critics in his office “invented all kinds of crazy things” about the integrity of the city’s electoral systems and cast doubt on the impartiality of the vote counters.
Several Republicans, including Senator Patrick Toomey of Pennsylvania, Senator Richard Burr (RN.C.) and Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah), faced reactions and requests for censorship after voting to condemn Trump in his most recent trial of impeachment.
