Reports: George Pickens has a torn ACL

Dawg Sports learned from sources within the UGA program that the wide-receiver Junior George Pickens injured his knee.

Pickens is widely considered to be Georgia’s biggest receiving threat, and was strengthened when JT Daniels started as a starter in the last four games of the UGA season. The two showed an immediate report and Pickens got at least a touchdown in three of Daniels’ last four games.

Sources told Dawg Sports that Pickens tore up an ACL, but we are awaiting confirmation from the university. If true, Pickens will almost certainly be out for the opening stretch of the UGA season, and he probably won’t be able to return until December or January.

Update 10:28: We can confirm that Pickens is already in surgery and that he actually tore his ACL. Georgie Head Coach Kirby Smart confirmed the injury in a statement, and shared that the injury is isolated from the ACL “and has not affected any other knee structures”. The UGA is just over five months away from starting the season against Clemson in Charlotte. Depending on how his rehabilitation progresses, Pickens could theoretically return during the second half of the season.
