Reported error in vaccine distribution in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West Virginia National Guard released a statement about a reported error in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in Boone County.

According to the WVNG, the error resulted in 42 people receiving Regeneron Antibody instead of Moderna Vaccine.

Officials say these people received the antibody product at a vaccination clinic hosted by Boone County Health Department officials.

The WVNG says that medical experts from the Joint Interagency Task Force do not believe that there is any risk of harm to these 42 individuals.

No one else received the antibody instead of the vaccine in West Virginia.

None of the other vaccine shipments before yesterday or going forward were affected by this.

The vaccine-related protocols have been revised and strengthened, according to the National Guard.

According to officials, 7,855 West Virginia residents were vaccinated on Wednesday across the state.

“The moment we were notified of what happened, we acted immediately to correct it and immediately revised and strengthened our protocols to improve our distribution process to prevent this from happening again,” said General James Hoyer, Adjutant General of the West Virginia. “I am still incredibly proud of everything that our team has accomplished. Our number one goal is to save lives and, as we continue to increase the distribution of the vaccine across the state, we continue to save more and more lives every day. ”

“The products administered are antibodies that fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s COVID-19 czar. “In fact, this product was the same product that was administered to President Trump when he was infected. Although this injection is not harmful, it has been replaced by the vaccine. But this occurrence offers our leadership team an important opportunity to review and improve the safety and vaccination process for each West Virginia. “
