Report: The integration of Depth of Call of Duty 2021 with Warzone remains ‘uncertain’

Call of Duty 2021 is officially on the horizon, and here is everything we know about the release date for the next game, who is developing it, leaks and more.

As always, a new year means a new Call of Duty game. The next release of Call of Duty 2021 is as mysterious as it is exciting, and we’re sure to have another year of Warzone updates combined with a whole new (or return) scenario for the franchise.

With the resounding success of Modern Warfare, Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, the 2021 iteration of Call of Duty is sure to be a major release. Let’s look at everything we know today.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 launch image

CoD 2021 release date

Call of Duty is traditionally released in November. However, Modern Warfare and Black Ops 4 were released in October. Ideally, Call of Duty targets the first Friday of each November, as we saw for the CoD WW2 and Infinite Warfare releases.

Friday’s tradition started with Black Ops 3, where previous games saw releases on the first Tuesday of November. Below you can read some of the recent releases of Call of Duty.

  • Advanced warfare: November 4, 2014
  • Black Ops III: November 6, 2015
  • Infinite War: November 4, 2016
  • Second World War: November 3, 2017
  • Black Ops 4: October 12, 2018
  • Modern war: October 25, 2019
  • Black Ops Cold War: November 13, 2020

Activision officially confirmed during the February 4 call to investors that there is a new Call of Duty game coming up this year, and the 2021 title will run in parallel with Warzone.

We can expect CoD 2021 to be released again on the first Friday in November. Black Ops Cold War was released on the second Friday of November, which may well be due to the less than normal development time that Treyarch had for the title.

Overall, we would definitely expect the new game to be released on the first or second Friday of November 2021.

Title CoD 2021

There is a new rumor at ModernWarzone that the 2021 Call of Duty provisional title is’WWII Vanguard. ‘This title adds credibility to the potential of being a World War game, as Vanguard is the main part of an advancing army or naval force.

Although ModernWarzone believes that this title could be changed in the future, Eurogamer “understands that Activision’s current plan is to keep the Vanguard subtitle for the final version”.

There has been no official word from Activision yet, and plans can certainly change in the future.

World War II Call of Duty

Co21 2021 configuration and time period

A rumor suggests that the 2021 game will be set during the Second World War era again, and Eurogamer has reported that this will be true.

ModernWarzone stated that CoD: WWII Vanguard would be an alternative version of World War II history set in the 1950s. However, Eurogamer sources contested this information, saying it would be a “traditional World War II scenario”.

We should get more teasers of the game in the coming months. Leaks, as always, will be difficult to decipher, with many community members posting fake leaks for each new CoD game.

Developer

There are rumors that sledgehammer games will make CoD 2021

The main current development studios for Call of Duty are Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch. Typically, these studios operate in 3-year development cycles. However, Sledgehammer Games did not have the first place for its most recent planned launch for 2020, which instead became the Treyarch Cold War Black Ops.

Because of this, Sledgehammer Games are the most likely candidates to develop the 2021 Call of Duty title. Eurogamer also believes that SHG will be developing the World War II Vanguard, reporting that its “sources indicated that this is indeed true”.

We will make sure to update this post with any new information as soon as it becomes available.
