Texans have not yet hired a new coach, but are retaining a member of the 2020 coaching staff.
Aaron Wilson of Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans denied requests from other teams to interview offensive coordinator and defender coach Tim Kelly. Kelly has just finished her second season as coordinator and her first season as the team’s offensive scorer.
These denials come at a time when all eyes are on the coaching decision because of quarterback Deshaun Watson’s dissatisfaction with the way the organization handled the search this month. John McClain’s Houston Chronicle reported earlier this month that Watson planned to lobby any top coach to keep Kelly on the team during the 2021 season.
One can connect the points of Watson’s reported desire to hold Kelly’s move, the Texans, to prevent teams from talking to him, but any final decision on Kelly’s status for the next season will have to wait for the team to hire a new technician.
