Report: South Carolina ‘interested’ in WVU’s Neal Brown for Coaching Job

The University of South Carolina is “very interested” in interviewing current West Virginia football coach, Neal Brown, for his role as football coach, CatsIllustrated’s Justin Rowland and 247Sports’s Clint Brester reported on Sunday night.

South Carolina fired coach Will Muschamp in mid-November after the Gamecocks lost their third consecutive game, dropping to 2-5 this season. Muschamp’s contract was four years away and the Gamecocks will still have to pay more than $ 13 million to the former coach.

Brown does not appear to be the top candidate for the job at the moment, as South Carolina officially interviewed Oklahoma assistant coach Shane Beamer on Friday. Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, Louisiana coach Billy Napier and Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell also appear to be candidates.

Brown’s contract with the WVU also implies a $ 4 million purchase if he leaves for another job before December 31, 2020. That purchase reduces to $ 3.5 million in 2021 and $ 2.5 million in 2022.

WVSN contacted Brown’s agent for comment, but received no response.
