Quarterback Russell Wilson has problems with the Seahawks and the team will have rehired one of his former coaches while trying to plot a course for the future.
Michael-Shawn Dugar of TheAthletic.com reports that Carl “Tater” Smith is returning to the team. Smith was the coach of the 2011-2017 team’s defenders and associate coach until 2018 before spending the last two seasons with the Texans. His role is not known, but he should not be the coach of defenders.
A report this week indicated that Wilson feels that there is a lack of responsibility for Carroll in the coaching staff. Carroll said that Smith has played this kind of role in the past.
“Tater would tell me anything,” said Carroll. “He was incredible. I demanded this because he knew the truth and needed to speak to me. “
Smith’s return was supposed to be agreed before the Super Bowl, so it was not a direct response to any of Wilson’s recent comments. Wilson’s agent said last week that he did not request an exchange, but identified four teams that Wilson would agree to join in an exchange.
Dugar reports that Tracy, Smith’s son, will also be part of the Seahawks team and that another well-known face will return to the organization. DeShawn Shead, who played 54 games in the Seattle cornerback between 2012 and 2017, will help in defense.
