We did a lot about Russell Wilson’s reported unhappiness with the Seahawks this off-season, but a report by Mike Silver suggests that the feeling may be mutual.
“The Seahawks are not happy with how it has fallen since the end of the season,” said Silver at NFL Total Access on Wednesday. “I believe that they will obviously hear offers from any of these four teams.”
The four teams Silver mentions are Bears, Raiders, Saints and Cowboys – the four teams that Wilson would be willing to dispense with his no-trade clause to join. It was not reported that Wilson formally requested an exchange, so the idea that the Seahawks would entertain exchange offers in any way is noteworthy.
“I think the situation is worse than I believed,” said Silver. “So yes, my thoughts have evolved a bit … If the Seahawks are not even talking about the possibility of a Russel Wilson deal now, they are committing negligence, because clearly, he is so unhappy.
“It’s not like he just made a comment after the season. He did two or three. When your agent introduces himself publicly and says, ‘I would play for one of these four teams’, and your client has a no-deal clause – you are not doing this if you strictly want to stay ”.
Despite the resentments, it is far from a foregone conclusion that Seattle will send Wilson this off-season.
“I think Pete Carroll considers himself a problem solver, so he will try to fix things,” said Silver. “But unless things get better, even if he comes back, think about what’s at stake, in a very difficult category, this coming season. If it doesn’t work out, will you change Russell Wilson after the season? Or are you going to say to Pete Carroll, ‘Hey man, it was a great race, but let’s bring in a coach that Russell Wilson wants to play for.’ I am not saying that this would happen, I am just saying that there are many balls in the air, and this is not a good situation at the moment. “
