A few days after their first major offseason shift – retrieving the offensive tackle Trent Brown through the Las Vegas Raiders’ swap – the New England Patriots made their second: the team rehired quarterback Cam Newton for an incentive A heavy contract a year and $ 5 million to prevent you from reaching the free unrestricted agency next week.

One of the apparently also involved the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. According to Evan Lazar of CLNS Media, the Patriots “kicked the tires” in their previous choice for the second round draft before bringing Newton back on duty.
A movement never materialized, however, because 49ers continued to say that Garoppolo would not be available via trade. Although things can change quickly in the NFL during this time of year, the Patriots moved in a different direction to bring Newton back into the fold.
Of course, New England inquiring about Garoppolo’s availability and re-signing its starting quarterback in 2020 does not necessarily need to be connected. The Patriots will do their due diligence on multiple players to get a feel for the market, and San Francisco’s QB was probably no exception, despite its ties to the organization.
Right now, and even with Newton staying put, New England is in the quarterback market – regardless of whether or not Garoppolo is part of it.
