Report of shooting at Sarasota fairgrounds, leading to investigation, police said

Police in Sarasota, Florida, confirmed on Saturday that they had received reports of a shooting at the city’s fairgrounds shortly after 10:00 pm Eastern time.

“Preliminary information suggests that a person drew a gun and shot another person,” wrote the Sarasota Police Department on Twitter. “Injuries are unknown.”

The police department’s Twitter message came after several posts on social media, suggesting that a crowd of up to 300 people may have fought for security after the shooting, but the police message did not address this problem.
