Report: Microsoft is planning an ‘What’s next for games’ Xbox event

The Xbox has been on fire lately, dominating radio waves with major releases for the Xbox Game Pass, including Outriders and the MLB developed for PlayStation: The Show. Microsoft also held a March ID @ Xbox event, where it showed dozens and dozens of games recently in partnership with Twitch. Microsoft is not slowing down, according to a new report by ZDNet, a leading Microsoft expert, Mary Jo Foley.

The news comes shortly after Microsoft’s announcement for Build 2021, the company’s major developer conference, which is scheduled for May 25-27. As part of these events, Foley notes that Microsoft is planning a series of small “What’s next” virtual events, which will include a feature specifically adapted for games. Foley also notes that this is not the next Game Stack Live event, scheduled for April.

Microsoft is complementing its major and major conferences this year with smaller virtual “What’s next” events. A “What’s Next for Gaming” event is expected in the coming weeks. I heard that the Game Stack Live event also listed on the US events page is not that event.

Given that this event will be part of Microsoft’s Build festivities, it is unlikely that we will see new games unveiled here. What you should expect, however, are the new features and technology that Microsoft is working on to improve the lives of developers in the gaming space. We were able to see glimpses of new graphics technologies and features scheduled for future versions of the Xbox toolkit, as well as features coming to the Xbox platform in general.

Microsoft had already made consumer-oriented ads at Build in the past, revealing new products and services as well. It may be at this event that the planned expansion of the Xbox Game Pass for web browsers is unveiled, bringing the gaming service at ease for iOS, Chromebooks, MacOS and low-power PCs and laptops. Considering the rumors from Microsoft to acquire the communication platform for Discord games, it would also be an opportune time to clarify what the partnership means for the Xbox platform and beyond.
