Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota has accepted that he will not find a team willing to pay him the starting money this season.

And then Mariota plans to sign a new contract with the Raiders, reports Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The new contract will have a big salary cut: under his old agreement, Mariota was scheduled to earn $ 10.725 million this season, but now he will only earn $ 3.5 million. However, he can earn up to $ 8 million if he uses all of his incentives.

Getting those incentives right is unlikely to be possible unless starting quarterback Derek Carr gets hurt or stays on the bench.

Last year, Mariota appeared in just one game, leaving the bench because of an injured Carr, and played reasonably well in that game. But he didn’t play well enough for any team to want to switch to his old contract, so instead he will be left with a reduced deal for his second year in Las Vegas.
