Report: Jets to fire Adam Gase after Sunday’s game

It’s no surprise, but the Jets will fire coach Adam Gase after Sunday’s game against the Patriots, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Gase has a 9-22 record in his two years as the Jets’ head coach. The team has been uncompetitive in its term, starting from 1 to 7 in 2019 and from 0 to 13 in 2020. Most notably, quarterback Sam Darnold has turned into a failure. Gase was hired specifically because he sold the property for its ability to turn Darnold into a star.

The report lists many of the usual suspects as potential candidates for the opening.

Among the candidates to be considered are Bosses offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, defensive coordinator Colts Matt Eberflus, defensive coordinator Ravens Don “Wink” Martindale, offensive coordinator Titans Arthur Smith and defensive coordinator Rams Brandon Staley for university coaches, as Iowa Stateit’s Matt Campbell, Jim Harbaugh of Michigan and Dan Mullen of Florida for all intermediaries.

Gase’s performance shouldn’t be a minor constraint for owner Christopher Johnson, who staked his reputation on rent and insisted that Gase would ultimately benefit the Jets. Now the Jets must turn the page and start to recover from this failed management.
