It was only a matter of time, but the day finally came: Charles Huff is the head coach of a Power Five program. The former Penn State running back coach and special team coordinator will be named Marshall Thundering Herd’s head coach, according to several reports.
SMASH: #Marshall is expected to hire #Alabama associate HC Charles Huff as the new head coach of Thundering Herd, by sources. The 37-year-old native MD was ranked as the country’s No. 1 recruiter in 2020, according to 247Sports.

Huff first trained with James Franklin in 2009, when both were in Maryland. Franklin was the offensive coordinator and coach of the defenders, while Huff was an assistant coach of the offensive line. When Franklin got the job at Vanderbilt in 2013, he took Huff with him to a quality control location. The two finally met in Happy Valley, when Franklin hired Huff as his running back trainer and special team coordinator. Huff proved his worth during his time in Happy Valley, recruiting and training names like Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders. He also came around on top of a special team unit that was quite terrible when his term began. In the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the special Nittany Lions teams were in a much better position.
Huff accompanied Joe Moorhead to the state of Mississippi, where he was appointed assistant chief trainer and coordinator of the running game, in addition to his role as a running back trainer. After a stint in Starkville, Huff moved to Alabama, where he spent the last two seasons as assistant coach and running back coach for Nick Saban.
Despite the fact that Huff was never an offensive coordinator, he has long been someone appointed as a future coach because of his organizational skills and elite recruiting skills. He also * blocked me on Twitter for asking to recruit a defender, so he clearly wastes no time on nonsense.
* Note: It has already unlocked me, thank you very much
With Huff set to become a head coach, he becomes James Franklin’s third assistant to be in charge of an FBS program, joining Joe Moorhead and Ricky Rahne.
