It seems that another technician vacancy is out of the picture.
Saints assistant coach / tight ends coach Dan Campbell is the favorite to become Lions’ next head coach, according to a report by Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero from NFL media.
Campbell interviewed Lions on Monday. He cannot have a second interview with Detroit, who hired Brad Holmes as his GM on Thursday, until the Saints’ season is over.
Former tight end in the 1999-2009 league, Campbell has been with Saints since 2016. Prior to that, he was the 2011-2015 Dolphins tight end coach, spending the last 12 games of the 2015 season as Miami’s interim coach. . The Dolphins were 5-7 under Campbell.
Campbell spent three seasons with Lions as a 2006-2008 player.
Lions would meet with Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles on Friday, but canceled the meeting, by Mike Garafolo of the NFL media. Campbell emerging as the favorite was part of the reason.
