Cowboys defensive quarterback coach Maurice Linguist has a new job as a defense co-coordinator at the University of Michigan, reports Matt Zenitz of AL.com.

The Cowboys have already hired the Linguist’s replacement. Joe Whitt Jr. will serve as a secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator with new coordinator Dan Quinn.

Linguist, a longtime college assistant before joining the Cowboys for the 2020 season, will help Mike Macdonald to replace Don Brown. The Wolverines hired Macdonald from the Ravens.

Linguist, 36, played defense at Baylor. He trained high school in Texas A&M, Minnesota, Mississippi State and Iowa State and also trained at Buffalo University, James Madison, Valdosta State and Baylor.

In 2017, in their only season in Minnesota, the Gophers ranked 11th nationally in passing defense (174.5 yards per game) and allowed only 16 passing touchdowns, drawing 22nd in FBS.
