Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota has been the subject of commercial talks this month, but a deal may not be as likely as it looked a few weeks ago.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that conversations between the Raiders and other teams “have moved a little further”, but significantly cooled in recent days. The Mariota contract seems to be the critical point.

He is expected to earn a base salary of $ 10.625 million with a maximum limit of $ 11.35 million, but the incentives in the contract can more than double his pay if he is a regular throughout the 2021 season.

That base salary without incentives may probably not be a big problem for a team that sees Mariota as a starter. This will make it difficult for Raiders to retain Mariota as a reserve for Derek Carr, and the prospect of Mariota’s release could also be a factor in teams moving away from a potential exchange for the second overall choice of the 2015 draft.
