Report: Colts offered at least two second-round choices for Eagles QB Carson Wentz

According to the NFL analyst Ron Jaworski, a Indianapolis Colts offered a preliminary compensation package that is highlighted by two second round choices, but has so far refused to include a first round choice for the former Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Carson Wentz in the ongoing business negotiations between the two teams:

‘Jaws’, who is a former Pro Bowl Eagles defender and has ties to the organization, reports that this appears to be the best offer the Eagles have really received so far, but Philly’s general manager Howie Roseman he still hopes to receive a choice in the first round of the Colts or another NFL commercial claimant.

Love it or hate it, this looks like a credible and realistic commercial offer that Colts general manager Chris Ballard may actually have offered by Wentz. Strong and fair enough to be reasonably considered, but he also won’t be mortgaging the Colts ‘future and going to despair – even with Indianapolis’ stark vacancy as a starting quarterback.

As the second overall choice in the 2016 NFL Draft, Wentz is still talented and only 28, but is coming out of a terrible 2020 campaign, in which he played 16 touchdowns at 15 interceptions before being replaced at the end of the season as a copy rookie of security Jalen hurts.

However, Wentz is not far from a 2017 season, in which he was a legitimate NFL MVP candidate for the then 11-2 Eagles – having released 33 touchdowns at 7 interceptions, before, unfortunately, suffering a torn ACL at the end of the season.

Your offensive coordinator during the All-Pro pass season in Philadelphia?

Colts Trainer Frank Reich– where the two have established a relationship and a positive working relationship together.

The hope is that, by meeting with Reich and his ‘friendly quarterback attack’ – while passing behind a strong offensive line (assuming the Colts can reinforce the left tackle) and supported by a Jonathan Taylorwith the power running game, that Wentz can be fixed – essentially regaining its old form.

Although their window has not yet been opened, the Colts have a well-balanced ‘built to win now’ list, which may be a veteran quarterback update, far from competing seriously for a 2021 Super Bowl championship.

The Wentz presents a great risk, certainly – with a high ceiling, but also a very low floor. However, the Colts face limited options from early-caliber veterans readily available now in the quarterback this off-season.

For what it’s worth, Wentz’s contract also allows for an ‘easy exit’ after two seasons.

Otherwise, the Colts franchise may have to pay a king’s ransom to trade in the next NFL Draft to gain a superior quarterback perspective (which is also risky).

It seems that both the Colts and the Eagles have reached an impasse in trade negotiations, but that does not mean that a deal will not be closed, or even closed soon.
