Relax: the Office chat app hangs up when people get back to work

Slack has stopped working properly, just as many people return to their real and virtual offices after the break.

Users were unable to reliably send or receive messages, with chats seeming to work and crashing. The text appeared to be sent, but then shown in gray in the chat, indicating that it was not actually delivered.

The tracking website Down Detector showed an increase in reports of problems with the messaging application.

Some parts of the Slack website also seemed inaccessible.

But the company’s official Twitter account and server status page did not immediately report any problems.

It was subsequently updated to make it clear that the company was aware of the problem and working to correct it.

“Customers may have trouble connecting to Slack to load channels right now. Our team is taking care of the case and we will keep them informed ”, wrote Slack on Twitter. “Sorry for any interruptions.”

The company gave no indication that it was aware of the cause of the problem, or any indication of when it might be online again.

Slack – along with competitors like Zoom and Microsoft’s Teams package – has become a central part of the blocking process, as workplaces appear to allow their employees to communicate while being discouraged from going to offices.

This means that any interruption can have an immediate and considerable effect, with employees unable to communicate as usual.
