Referee hospitalized after being hit after Rutgers game

EAST LANSING, Michigan – Officer Angie Enlund was injured at the end of the Rutgers-Michigan State women’s basketball game on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital.

After the final bell, Rutgers player Tekia Mack was returning to the Scarlet Knights bench when she inadvertently ran over Enlund on the central court, hitting hard.

Enlund stayed on the floor for a few minutes and came out on a stretcher. She had mobility and movement of her extremities and went to a hospital to be evaluated later.

A Michigan state spokeswoman said Enlund would be held overnight in the hospital with a concussion, but that she had no fractures.

“I know she was unconscious for a period of time,” said Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant. “They took her by ambulance, but it’s a very scary and serious thing. It hit very, very hard. She hit her head very hard, so I would just pray for her and her family and I hope she will be okay. “

Rutgers players huddled in front of their bench holding hands in a circle praying for Enlund.
