Reddit’s announcement lasts five seconds, but stands out against Wall Street – Deadline

A five-second guerrilla marketing ad by Reddit’s subreddit r / wallstreetbets broadcast a message in a “blink and you’ll lose” moment right after the break.

The community was using a GoFundMe to raise money for an ad, but was unable to reach the high mark in the short time before the game. So, instead, he chose to blow up the message in his five-second moment, hoping that subsequent pick-ups (like this one) would help reach the target audience.

The plan was drawn up in reaction to a thirty-second Super Bowl ad by the Robinhood stock trading app, which is currently in the house for blocking trade in Gamestop and other volatile stocks. Robinhood is out of reach, Reddit argued, celebrating the very people he suffocated.

Robinhood interrupted a short squeeze in progress. The change led to more than 30 class actions.
