Wall Street isn’t the only thing Redditors are revolting against
When redditors are unhappy with something, they make that very clear. There is no need to look beyond the current war between retail investors on / r / WallStreetBets and institutional investors on Wall Street. While stockpiles of memes are currently dominating the front page of the Internet, many users are not happy with how hot Reddit memes are being delivered to them. The official Reddit iOS app recently received an update that added a new video player user interface, and many users don’t like it at all.
The Reddit Mobile subreddit, the community where Reddit administrators notify users of new app updates for Android and iOS, is full of complaints about the new video player. Many users describe the experience as TikTok or similar to Instagram. Others simply say that it is very intrusive and also requires more button presses to access the comments section of a post. The new UI of the video player has not yet reached the Android version, but we would be surprised if Reddit moves forward with the controversial changes in the video player in its current form. Personally, I use Reddit is Fun on Android, but I’m tempted to switch to the official app, as many of the new features are not available for third-party apps (for example, chat). I’m definitely not going to change if this is the direction the official Reddit app is headed. Fortunately, many third-party Reddit customers provide a better core experience than the official mobile app, so the benefits of staying away from the official app outweigh the disadvantages, in my opinion. On iOS, I heard great things about the Apollo app, so make sure you’re looking for an alternative.
