Reddit users report outages in the US, Canada

Reddit users reported interruptions in the U.S. and Canada for a short period on Saturday, Reuters reported, citing an outage monitor Downdetector.

A map on the Downdetector website showed customers reporting problems logging into Reddit and sending messages, according to Reuters. Regions such as New York, Boston and Washington, DC, were affected, as well as Toronto.

On Saturday afternoon, Downdetector reported no problems with Reddit. Reddit’s operational page also showed no problems.

A Reddit spokesman told Reuters: “We had some problems with higher error rates this week. … This meant slower load times for some users, but we never got too low.

The statement also said it was not tracking any problems on Saturday.

Reddit did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.

Reddit made headlines this week after users of the r / WallStreetBets forum raised the stock prices of several companies, like GameStop and Nokia, which were shorted by hedge funds.

The move shook Wall Street and the Securities and Exchange Commission said friday who was investigating whether market manipulation caused the recent outbreaks.
