Recipient of COVID-19 vaccine in Japan dies, but connection uncertain

A 60-year-old woman who received the coronavirus vaccine died, the health ministry said on Tuesday. The woman received a vaccine from Pfizer Inc. on Friday and died on Monday.

The cause of death is believed to be subarachnoid hemorrhage, and the causal relationship with the vaccine is undetermined, the ministry said.

It is the first report of death after vaccination against coronavirus in the country.

It was not reported that she had underlying diseases.

There are no reports in other countries of a link between the Pfizer vaccine and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
