Recap of ‘The Masked Dancer’: [Spoiler] Wins at the end of the 1st season

After almost two months of voice-modulated tracks, Craig Robinson’s puns and the same stretch of Cameo’s “Word Up” played in a loop, The masked dancer reached its first end.

At the end of Wednesday, only Tulip, Cotton Candy and Sloth remained in the competition – and the dozens of tracks offered to viewers since December have convinced me that they are TikTok star Mackenzie Ziegler, Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas and Dancing with the stars alum Maks Chmerkovskiy under these respective suits. But are these assumptions accurate? And which judge ultimately accumulated the most accurate predictions for the season? Read on to find out:

TULIP | Before Tulip’s final presentation, we have a few more clues: the letter “E” with an angry face; makeup palettes; and a barrel labeled “X Ale”, which only further convinces Judge Ken Jeong that Tulip is Lucy Hale. But after the excellent and energetic Tulip routine set for Ava Max’s “Kings & Queens” – a real bop between bops – and her Word Up track of “followers”, Ashley Tisdale gives up on Ziegler, whom she guessed for the first time this week last.

LAZINESS | In his final pack of clues, Preguiça appears wearing a cowboy hat while dollar bills fall around him, and later he is standing beside a street sign that says “Jump Street”. But listen more closely and you will hear the most devastating narration of the season: As Preguiça tells us how beautiful it is to remain anonymous in his fantasy, he adds: “People cannot dislike you if they cannot see you, right?” Ah, Someone give this hairy man a hug!

Preguiça achieves another technically perfect and highly funny performance – a trick this time – and he gives a Word Up clue of “magician”. But although Chmerkovskiy was suggested by the judges last week, none of them seem to notice Laziness saying, “Let’s go maximize dance and win this thing ”in your package. (It would have been more impressive if he made “Chmerkovskiy” into a sentence, but I will be content with “Maks”.)

Masked Dancer final recapCOTTON CANDY | Before Cotton Candy took the stage, his package of tracks included Cotton Candy’s hands in prayer and a constellation repeating in the sky four times; later, your Word Up tip is “basic”. But the biggest clue of them all is right there in the choreography, set for Kesha’s cover of “This Is Me” by The greatest showman: Cotton Candy does all kinds of impressive gymnastics around the stage, almost as if she’s shouting to the judges: “Stop! Divination! Tara! Lipinski! ”(But Brian Austin Green yet remains convinced that he is a figure skater, so there is no hope.)

And now, the results! Tulip ends in third place after the public vote, and although the other judges make last-minute assumptions about Liza Koshy, Lucy Hale and Sabrina Carpenter, it is Tisdale who is right in the end: Tulip is indeed Ziegler.

Laziness is then announced as runner-up, and Green hitches a ride on Abdul’s final guess about Chmerkovskiy, while Jeong predicts it’s Channing Tatum and Tisdale goes to Hugh Jackman. Green actually would you like guessing the other Chmerkovskiy brother, Val, then realizes that Val doesn’t have a son like Sloth does – and walking on the tail of Abdul’s coat pays off, since Sloth is revealed to be Maks Chmerkovskiy after all.

This does Cotton Candy the first Masked dancer winner – and despite Green and Jeong’s insistence throughout the episode that Cotton Candy is a figure skater (namely Lipinski and Michelle Kwan), Abdul gives his second correct guess about the final (and fourth of the season!): Cotton Candy is Douglas, who now adds the Diamond Mask trophy to his already impressive list of achievements.

Your turn! Were you happy to see Cotton Candy win everything? And which identities did you guess correctly? Tell us in the comments below!
