Wanda doesn’t even know what else to think, but he’s about to get some answers.

Marvel Studios

WandaVision took a suitably modern turn Friday as episode 7 of Marvel Cinematic Universe show hit Disney Plus. In the episode, entitled Breaking the Fourth Wall, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) expanded the limits of Westview to save Vision (Paul Bettany) from certain death after him I stepped out the sitcom city.

In doing so, she dragged astrophysicist Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and dozens of government agents into her false world. However, SWORD agent Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and FBI guy Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) escaped the expansion, as they set out to find Monica’s mysterious aerospace engineer friend.

It’s time for SPOILER.

It’s been Agatha all along

In a profoundly unsurprising (but well-executed) twist, it was discovered that ridiculously suspicious Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) was mean all the time. Wanda enters his scary basement looking for his missing twins, and Agnes turns out to be the witch Agatha Harkness. It turns out that she was responsible for everything that went wrong or strange in Westview, including The arrival by Pietro Maximoff from Fox X-Men Universe (Evan Peters).

“And me killed Sparky too, “she says, laughing.

This is a step too far, Agatha. But the killer theme song.

A greater evil?

There is some evidence that there is another force at work – including the super-prominent cicada on the curtain in Agatha’s office. It is not a million miles from a fly, a form taken by the demon Mephisto in his first chronological appearance in comics. I’m happy that Spider-Man MCU isn’t married.

“Ralph says I give things a coat,” said Agatha during one of her interviews, referring to her invisible husband (and suggesting that he is worse than she is).

Besides, where the hell are Tommy and Billy? This whole facade is probably a scheme to get hold of the superpowered children of Wanda and Vision, so … success?

The post-credit scene

Monica arrives at Agatha’s house and prepares to enter the basement, but is surprised by a chilling Pietro (who is probably under Agatha’s control).

“Snooper is going to snoop,” he says.

It is likely that Agatha and Pietro are in for a surprise, as they do not know that Monica is gaining superpowers. It seems possible that Agatha removed him from the X-Men universe to manipulate Wanda.

The powerful monica

After Monica crossed the Hex barrier and returned to Westview, her DNA was rewritten and she gained some skills. She can perceive the electromagnetic spectrum, like electricity on poles, and apparently absorbs kinetic energy when Wanda throws it to the ground.

Monica’s costume, seen in modern comics.

Marvel Comics

In the comics, she got the power to transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum after being bombarded by extra-dimensional energies. And the SWORD outfit she wore on her second trip to Westview sure looks like her modern comic book fantasy.

Voices in the barrier

As she is passing through the barrier, Monica hears a lot of familiar voices – mostly a flashback from Captain Marvel. Speakers include his late mother Maria, Monica’s younger self, Nick Fury (!) And Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel).

Mary: “No, I can’t. I can’t leave Monica.”

Young Monica: “Mom, it’s okay. I can stay with Grandma and Pop-Pop.”

Mary: “I’m not going at all, baby. It’s too dangerous.”

Young Monica: “Mom, maybe I could fly and meet you halfway.”

Fury: “Only if you learn to shine like your Aunt Carol.”

Mary: “And you were the most powerful person I have ever met.”

Dr. Harley: “Your mother, she died, dear.”

Jimmy: “She was really an inspiration. Sorry.”

Carol: “Your mother is lucky. When they were handing out children, they gave her the hardest.”

Entering the circus

Darcy finds herself in the role of Westview as an escape artist in the circus, but Vision wakes her up and she tells him his whole story. Now he is aware of all the trauma that Wanda experienced in Avengers: Infinity War, having killed him to prevent Thanos from obtaining the Mental Stone, only to see him die again after Thanos reversing time. The movie is so fast that I didn’t even think how horrible it would be.

Five years have passed within the universe since these events, but Wanda was among those who were detonated and only returned a few weeks ago. So this trauma is very recent.

SWORD sharpens

We only have a moment with the director of SWORD acting stupid, Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg), but he is determined to launch an attack on Wanda today. Your henchman mentions that the WandaVision sitcom is no longer broadcasting – probably because Wanda is taking it to me or Agatha started blocking it while preparing to make his move.

Jimmy doesn’t have much to do either, but he confirms by Darcy’s email that Hayward wanted to put the Vision back online. Ultimately, Wanda’s power was needed to do so.

“Hayward wants his sensitive weapon back,” says Monica.

The aerospace engineer

Fan theories suggested that Monica’s aerospace engineer friend would be Reed Richards or the energy-absorbing hero Blue Marvel – nah, man. Major Goodner and his team are apparently loyal to Monica, but don’t mention working for anyone else.

It still suggests a SWORD faction that will stay with Monica, who will likely end up replacing Hayward as director after the plot reaches its peak.

“Nexus, why doesn’t the world revolve around you. Or does it?”

The announcement

It is episode commercial is for the Nexus antidepressant – in Avengers: Age of UltronTony Stark breaks into the NEXUS Internet Hub to discover that JARVIS (the AI that became the Vision) spread his artificial consciousness across the web to stop Ultron.

In comics, the Nexus is a multidimensional portal that provides a path to various realities – linking it to an antidepressant that fits in with Wanda’s attempt to create his own reality to escape his trauma. This may be related to the next film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“An exclusive antidepressant that works to anchor you back to your reality. Or to the reality of your choice,” says the ad. “Side effects include feeling your feelings, confronting your truth, apprehending your destiny and possibly more depression.”

Just before Monica confronts Wanda, we see her taking some pills from a similarly labeled bottle.

Also in the comics, Wanda is a Nexus Being – something whose power can affect probability and alter the flow of time. These people are monitored by the Time Variance Authority, a group that will appear on the next Loki show.

WTF notes and questions

  • The introductions to The Office and Modern Family.
  • “I know what you’re doing Wanda” flashes on the screen during the introduction, in the style of a ransom note. It could be a clue that Tommy and Billy were kidnapped.
  • Kathryn Hahn is considered one of the singers on “It Was ______ All Along”, which looks a lot like The Munsters’ theme song (and a little like The Addams Family too).
  • “I really bit a child once.” It looks like Agatha needs her own Disney Plus series.
  • Objects are changing between time periods, which suggests that Wanda is losing control. Or is Agatha taking control of her?
  • “Don’t believe anything that man said. He’s not your uncle.” After wanda seemed to accept Pietro, she suddenly tells Tommy and Billy about him. Did his casual cruelty about Vision’s death shaking her from her illusion?
  • The voices Billy is hearing are the real personalities of Westview residents. Agnes / Agatha is “quiet” because her personality is not being suppressed.
  • An empathetic Monica seems to be able to speak to Wanda before Agatha interrupts, which is hopeful that Wanda will return from the brink.
  • “Do you think this is perhaps what you deserve?” Agatha says as an interviewer, suggesting that she is punishing Wanda.
  • You can hear the purr as Wanda passes Señor Scratchy the rabbit in Agatha’s living room. The rabbit may actually be Agatha’s familiar cat, Ebony.
  • Tommy and Billy’s controllers briefly turn into Nintendo GameCube pillows – definitely the best. They also use Wii Remotes, but I don’t think this console needs my public support so much.
  • Why didn’t Darcy and Vision go out and walk?

Join us for more Easter eggs and remarks next Friday, when episode 8 from WandaVision arrives at Disney Plus.
