Recall Newsom campaign organizer says Biden’s opposition shows the governor knows he’s in trouble

The White House, for the first time, this week considered the recall campaign to overthrow California Governor Gavin Newsom for his manipulation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that Newsom shares President Joe Biden’s commitment to dealing with the climate crisis and “putting the pandemic under control”.

In addition, said Psaki, the president “clearly opposes any effort to revoke” Governor Newsom.

Anne Dunsmore, the campaign manager and chief financial officer for Rescue California 2021, told Fox News on Wednesday that Psaki’s statement suggests that Newsom took the recall threat seriously.

“When they have to shout big guns like that, it means they know they are in trouble,” said Dunsmore. “The fact that he has to convince them to post in a White House tweet to say that he does not support the recall is further evidence that they are in trouble.”

The recall Gavin 2020, the main organizing committee for the recall, said it – on Wednesday – collected more than 1.4 out of 1.5 million signatures needed to qualify for a vote. The group plans to collect 2 million signatures before the March 10 deadline to compensate for invalid signatures.

Fox News made several attempts to contact the Newsom press team during the recall campaign, but received no response.

California Democrats who support Newsom tried to portray the recall as being led by marginal groups and white supremacists.

California Democratic Party President Rusty Hicks, for example, has repeatedly made such statements, saying at a news conference last month that the recall effort should be called a “California coup”.

“(It is) led by right-wing conspiracy theorists, white nationalists, antivaxxers and groups that encourage violence in our democratic institutions,” said Hicks, without providing a piece of evidence.

Dunsmore predicted that such a vitriol would inevitably backfire on Democrats – some of whom were really critical of Hicks’ comments.

“If people do that partisan, the shot will backfire. They’re still saying, ‘QAnon and this mess,’ and it’s like, good luck. You want to keep shooting with that kind of ammunition, it won’t help,” Dunsmore said .

Newsom was elected in a landslide victory in the heavily democratic state in 2018, but he saw his luck sour, as many residents grew tired of the long-standing restrictions on coronavirus that closed schools and businesses while he fights the consequences of a massive fraud scandal. unemployment insurance.
